Milwaukee Brewers Reach the World Series for the First Time in 44 Years
The Brewers swept the two-time champion Dodgers in four games to win the National League pennant.

The Milwaukee Brewers are going to the World Series. On Thursday night they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 at Dodger Stadium to finish a four-game sweep, which means they won all four games of the series. It is the team's first World Series trip in 44 years, ESPN reports.
The Dodgers had won the title two times in a row, and the Brewers had to come from behind. Los Angeles took a lead of four runs after a loud three-run home run by Shohei Ohtani. Milwaukee stayed calm, rallied and won the game.
After the final out, fans and players wandered the field looking for people to hug. Two former Brewers stars, Ryan Braun and Christian Yelich, who both won the National League's Most Valuable Player award, hugged and posed for pictures. Braun, who retired in 2020, said the current team has made all the former Brewers proud, and that they keep talking about it in a group text. He said Milwaukee has waited 44 years, with hope, heartbreak and belief that its moment would come.
The Brewers are one of only five major league teams that have never won a championship, and the pennant brings them one step closer to getting off that list. They also crossed another team off a list. The last time they reached the World Series was 1982, when they played in the American League. Until now, Milwaukee was the only current National League team that had never won a National League pennant.
The team has been close for a long time. The Brewers have been strong for about ten years, but they had often been stopped in the National League Championship Series, twice by the Dodgers. Yelich said that nearly every game he has played for Milwaukee has had something at stake. This time they broke through, and they did it in Southern California, where Yelich and several teammates grew up. Yelich called it an unbelievable opportunity and something you dream about as a kid.
The win came just 19 days after Yelich was named the first team captain in Brewers history.
