How to Trick-or-Treat in Pokémon Pokopia's First Halloween Event
Players can scare Pokémon with Ditto's disguises to collect pumpkin candies until November 1.

Pokémon Pokopia has its first Halloween event, called "Pumpkaboo's Sweet Surprises." Polygon explains that it adds a list of items for giving each region a spooky look. You can play the event from October 17 at 5 a.m. until November 1 at 4:59 a.m., based on the clock on your Nintendo Switch. If you miss it, you can use time travel in the game to join in later.
To take part, you only need to have rebuilt at least one Pokémon Center. To earn the event currency, you also need to learn the Camouflage ability from Zorua, which happens as you progress through the Bleak Beach quests.
When you start the game, the usual message says a Pokémon is the talk of the town. That tells you to go to the rebuilt Pokémon Center and find Pumpkaboo. After a short chat, Pumpkaboo becomes your friend and offers items in exchange for pumpkin candies. By building one of the two new event habitats, you can also attract Gourgeist.
Pumpkin candies come from playing tricks on other Pokémon. You use Camouflage to turn Ditto into one of the things a Pokémon likes. Not every disguise works with every Pokémon. A mushroom streetlight works for Pokémon that like bright places, while some Pokémon need a very specific item, like a punching bag for Hitmonchan. You cannot scare the same Pokémon twice. When you get close, wait to see if the Pokémon says something about your object. If it does, undo the disguise to give it a fright. Taking off the disguise too early does not scare it. After catching their breath, Pokémon give a few pumpkin candies. The writer got between one and three.
The event adds nine new furniture items, and buying one copy of each takes 20 pumpkin candies in total. You might have to frighten between seven and 20 Pokémon because the amount of candy appears to be random. If you want to collect only the items for the new houses, you need to choose a candy bucket, a ghost smoke projector, a pumpkin lantern, a pumpkin lantern tower, and a Trevenant streetlight. Collecting every item earns the "Trick or Treat" photo frame.
